One Book 4 Colorado 2016 launched in fun fashion on April 11 at the Rodolpho “Corky” Gonzales Branch of the Denver Public Library! Governor Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Hancock led the way, announcing and reading this year’s book selection—Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae—and getting the dozens of 4-year-olds in the room up and dancing. Jennifer Jones, executive director of Serve Colorado, and Rudy Gonzales, executive director of Servicios de la Raz and son of the late Denver civil rights activist for whom the library branch is named, also welcomed the crowd. The youngsters were so excited to get a book to keep and enjoyed the fun launch event.
Special thanks to Denver Public Library and staff at the Corky Gonzales Branch for hosting the event; Lisa Dengerink and Brianna Austin from DPL for providing storytime fun; Rodolfo Cardenas, Producer/Host of radio show Hablemos Hoy for providing Spanish-language activities; and the Denver Police for safely escorting students to the library.
